SafeWork NSW has announced that by 1st March 2025, all demolition workers must complete mandatory training requirements for CPCCDE3016 Identify hazards on demolition sites and apply risk management strategies to do licensed demolition work.
This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to identify hazards common to demolition work, and undiscovered hazards that may arise during the course of work on demolition sites. It includes assessing risks and applying risk management strategies according to compliance and workplace requirements. It supports the induction procedure for specialist demolition workers before beginning work on site.
Licensing, legislative and regulatory requirements apply to demolition work in different states and territories.

Course Description
This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to identify hazards common to demolition work, and undiscovered hazards that may arise during the course of work on demolition sites. It includes assessing risks and applying risk management strategies according to compliance and workplace requirements. It supports the induction procedure for specialist demolition workers before beginning work on site.
Licensing, legislative and regulatory requirements apply to demolition work in different states and territories.
Pre-Requisite Unit
All students must have CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, polices and procedures in the construction industry. Students who have completed this pre-requisite unit must provide certification including this unit of competency.
Students who do not have this pre-requisite unit must enroll in and successfully complete CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry prior to undertaking CPCCDE3016 Identify hazards on demolition sites and apply risk management strategies.

SafeWork NSW identified workers who must be trained are those who:
- Physically undertake licensed demolition work
- Operate plant or equipment involved in licensed demolition work
- Undertake work directly connected to the performance of licensed demolition work

- Apply WHS risk management strategies to work activities on demolition sites
- Apply public health and safety risk management strategies on demolition sites
- Apply environmental risk management strategies on demolition sites

Assessment Requirements
Students will be assessed using relevant assessment methods which includes but is not limited to the following:
- Knowledge evidence requires student to answer a range of theory questions
- Performance evidence requires students to identify two different hazards on two separate occasions and apply a risk management strategy for each hazard on each occasion
Verification of Competency (VOC)
Verification of competency (VOC) is used to verify worker’s current competence and assists the employer to determine the skill level of the operator for the model and make of machinery and task.
The VOC is commonly used by employers during pre-employment checks, site requirements and contract negotiations. DLI Training undertakes VOC assessment either in conjunction with training or as a VOC only request to provide to employers.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for CPCCDE3016 Identify hazards on demolition sites and apply risk management strategies and issued a wallet-sized card reflecting their achievement

From 1 March 2025, demolition licence holders must ensure demolition workers have completed CPCCDE3016 – Identify hazards on demolition sites and apply risk management strategies, if required to undertake licensed demolition work course approved by SafeWork NSW. The pre-requisite for the course is CPCCWHS2001 – Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry.
This is one of the 11 units of competency required for licence holders and/or named supervisors.
