Remove non-friable asbestos

This unit is required for all Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) removal workers engaged in the removal of non-friable ACM in quantities more than 10m2.

Project sites for removal of non-friable asbestos include construction sites, ships and soils.

The model work health and safety (WHS) regulations and the Code of Practice: How to safely remove asbestos (2018) requires workers to hold certification for the class of licensed asbestos removal work they will be undertaking. Completion of this unit of competency is certification to undertake non-friable (Class B) removal work.

Occupational licenses are required nationally. This unit is required for all ACM removal workers engaged in the removal of more than ten square metres of non-friable ACM.

Completing this training does not result in getting the relevant asbestos licence. Workers need to meet Safework NSW requirement to apply for the licence.

Entry Requirement:

  • Minimum 15 years of age.
  • 100 points of ID must be provided on the day of training (Original) 
  • A statement of attainment for CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the
    construction industry or Safework general construction induction training card (White Card) 
  • Have USI or create one from https://www.usi.gov.au/your-usi/create-usi

Pre-requisite:

  • CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card)

Do I need to do this course or Asbestos Awareness only?
Greater than 10sqm of asbestos removal or friable asbestos removal

To remove more than 10sqm of non-friable asbestos or any amount of friable asbestos workers must complete the specified VET course before carrying out asbestos work.

If you’re a worker who supervises asbestos removal, there is additional training you also need to do.

If Less than 10sqm of asbestos removal

Asbestos awareness training must be provided to workers who are who are carrying out asbestos removal work of less than 10m2 and/or workers who are at risk of being exposed to asbestos while on the job i.e. electricians, plumbers, bathroom and kitchen renovators

The training must be relevant to the task and must cover:

  • asbestos identification
  • safe handling of asbestos
  • suitable control measures

This course addresses the requirements of the national unit of competency CPCCDE3014 Remove Non-Friable Asbestos.

  • Preparing for non-friable Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) removal.
  • Safely containing and removing non-friable ACM.
  • Decontamination and disposal requirements.

CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (white card).

  • Minimum 14 years of age.
  • 100 points of ID must be provided on the day of training (Original) 
  • A statement of attainment for CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the
    construction industry or Safework general construction induction training card (White Card) 
  • Have USI or create one from https://www.usi.gov.au/your-usi/create-usi
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English

Classroom based ( Face to face)

2 Days Training Course

  • Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with a Statement of attainment for the unit.
