TLILIC0004 Licence to Operate an Order Picking Forklift Truck

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate an order picking forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRWL licence to operate this plant.

Order picking forklift truck means an order picking forklift truck where the operator controls are incorporated with the lifting media and elevate with the lifting media. A person performing this work is required to hold an order picking forklift truck High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).

The duration of an order picker forklift licence training can vary depending on the training provider and the specific course you choose. At DLI Training, the standard forklift license course is designed to be completed over two days training and 1 day assessment:

  • Day One & Two is Theory and Practical Training: The first day consists of a combination of theoretical learning and practical exercises. You’ll learn about safety protocols, equipment operation, hazard identification, and risk management. Practical training will involve hands-on experience with an order picker forklift, allowing you to develop the necessary skills under the supervision of experienced trainers.
  • SafeWork Assessment Day: This day is scheduled after successful completion of training to undertake the SafeWork NSW assessment. During this assessment, you will demonstrate your ability to operate an order picker forklift safely and competently in a variety of scenarios. If you require additional training or reassessment, DLI Training offers options to return for further practice at a minimal additional charge.

Legislative and regulatory requirements are applicable to this unit of competency. This unit is based on the licensing requirements of Part 4.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations and meets Commonwealth, State and Territory HRWL requirements.

The National Assessment Instrument (NAI) is the mandated assessment for the HRWL to operate the relevant licencing class as detailed in this unit.

  • Students must show that they are NSW residents using the SafeWork NSW 100 Points ID as listed at the following link:
  • Students must bring original EOI documents that add up to at least 100 points as certified copies will not be accepted.
  • The EOI documents must contain your date of birth, current residential address, photo and signature.
  • Students who fail to provide the SafeWork NSW approved 100 points of ID, will not be eligible to commence training and must reschedule to a later date incurring the published reschedule fee

Students will be assessed which includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Knowledge evidence requires student to answer a range of theory questions.
  • Performance evidence to demonstrate application of:
    • Applying safe operating procedures for an order picking forklift truck, maintaining safe operating speed and travelling with platform lowered to appropriate height.
    • Complying with Commonwealth, State and Territory Work Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)/Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation, regulations safe work and workplace procedures.

Verification of competency (VOC) is used to verify worker’s current competence and assists the employer to determine the skill level of the operator for the model and make of machinery and task.

The VOC is commonly used by employers during pre-employment checks, site requirements and contract negotiations. DLI Training undertakes VOC assessment either in conjunction with training or as a VOC only request to provide to employers.

Statement of Attainment:

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0004 Licence to operate an order picking forklift truck making them eligible to undertake the SafeWork NSW National Assessment Instrument.

  • Trainer issues a Notice of Readiness to evidence successful completion of training.
  • Student schedules SafeWork NSW assessment.
  • Students that pass SafeWork NSW assessment will be issued with the following:
    • SafeWork NSW Notice of Satisfactory Assessment (NSA) Pink copy.
    • SafeWork NSW Notice of Satisfactory Assessment (NSA) White copy.
    • Application for a National License to Perform High Risk Work (HRW License) – New Application (N5 Form).
  • Students then go to the post office to lodge the following:
    • Application for a National License to Perform High Risk Work (HRW License) – New Application (N5 Form).
    • SafeWork NSW Notice of Satisfactory Assessment (NSA) white copy.
    • 100 Point ID
    • SafeWork NSW lodgment payment fee (as published by SafeWork NSW).
  • Students keep the SafeWork NSW Notice of Satisfactory Assessment (NSA) Pink copy which is their temporary license which is valid for 60 days.Students will receive their HRW License card from SafeWork NSW
