CPPFES2005 Demonstrate First Attack Firefighting Equipment Training

This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment. It includes demonstrating and explaining to clients how to correctly and safely use portable fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets in emergency situations.

The unit is suitable for those with basic skills and knowledge undertaking routine work tasks under the direction of more experienced workers. Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency in some states and territories. By completing this fire fighting training course participants will gain the skills and knowledge to:

  • Demonstrate and explain correct use of portable fire extinguisher to extinguish simulated fire.
    • Understand and articulate the purpose and operation of various types of fire extinguishers to relevant individuals.
    • Identify different fire types and their classifications.
    • Select the appropriate fire extinguisher based on the type and classification of the fire.
    • Demonstrate the safe and proper usage of a fire extinguisher to combat a fire in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Demonstrate and explain correct use of fire hose reel.
    • Explain the purpose and functionality of a fire hose reel to relevant individuals.
    • Properly deploy the fire hose reel following the manufacturer’s instructions.
    • Operate the fire hose reel nozzle to direct the water stream accurately at the designated target.
    • Shut down the water flow in the approved sequence and inspect the hose reel for leaks per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
    • Rewind the fire hose reel after use as per the manufacturer’s requirements.
  • Demonstrate and explain use of fire blanket
    • Clearly explain the purpose and application of a fire blanket.
    • Demonstrate the safe and correct usage of a fire blanket to suppress a fire according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

The units of competency listed above are current on the National Register of VET at the time of publication.

  • Training will be conducted face to face for 1 day.

Delivery Locations:

  • DLI Training: 5 Melissa Street Auburn NSW
  • Client site: workplace training available on request (minimum 10 participants)

Students will be assessed using relevant assessment methods which includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Knowledge evidence requires student to answer a range of theory questions.
  • Performance evidence includes demonstrating and explaining the correct and safe use of first attack firefighting equipment.

Verification of competency (VOC) is used to verify worker’s current competence and assists the employer to determine the skill level of the operator for the model and make of machinery and task.

The VOC is commonly used by employers during pre-employment checks, site requirements and contract negotiations. DLI Training undertakes VOC assessment either in conjunction with training or as a VOC only request to provide to employers.

Upon successful completion of the firefighting course, students will be issued with Statement of Attainment for CPPFES2005 Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment.

The recommended refresher for training should be carried out annually for this unit with a maximum time of 2 Years between refresher courses.
